Risi – A Set of Table Mats
The Risi Tablemat is a celebration of nature, craftsmanship, and togetherness.
Each mat is handwoven from elephant grass, a natural and sustainable resource locally harvested in the southern part of Ghana. After harvesting, the grass is sun-dried, then carefully split vertically. Each strand is twisted tightly by hand before weaving begins.
For this design, a double-weave technique is used. This means the twisted straw is untwisted again just before weaving, creating a richer texture and stronger structure. This preparation process takes longer than the weaving itself, highlighting the time, patience, and skill behind every mat.
