Baskets woven with purpose and care
Yema weaves sustainable baskets that honor tradition and support artisans. Each piece is made by skilled hands in Ghana, using natural materials and time-honored techniques.
The craft
We work alongside artisans who shape our vision
Our baskets are made using a traditional weaving technique passed down through generations in the open air undernow.
The discovery
The Material That Changed Everything
Yema baskets begin with Vetiveria grass harvested from the forests of Northern and Southern Ghana. This grass, once considered worthless on abandoned land, is now the material that sustains families and creates baskets meant to last a lifetime.
What drives us forward
We are driven by people, tradition, and the belief that meaningful work can change lives. We believe in work that matters and goods that last.

Ethical
Fair wages and dignity
Every weaver earns fair wages and works in safe conditions.
Heritage
Tradition meets innovation
We honor ancient techniques while creating designs for today.

Sustainable
Natural materials only
Vetiver grass, natural dyes, and zero waste guide our process.
Nothing is wasted, everything is made
We follow a zero-waste approach. Leftover straw from larger baskets is transformed into smaller, functional designs.
Story
How Yema began and grew
What started as a passion became a bridge between Norway and Northern Ghana. Today, Yema is a community of weavers, makers, and believers in work that matters—work that sustains families and honors the earth.
Process
From grass to finished basket
We work with nature, not against it. Every step honors both the material and the hands that shape it.
Harvest with care
Roots stay in the ground so grass grows back stronger next season.
Dry under the sun
Natural light and air prepare the grass for splitting and weaving.
Hand-split and twisted
Skilled fingers split, twist, and prepare each strand for the loom.
